About Music NWT

Music NWT is a non-profit music industry association dedicated to helping develop and foster music and the music industry in the Northwest Territories. We collaborate with professional organizations that have the desire to support northern artists, and are fortunate to have strong partners and sponsors that help us support the NWT music industry.

Factor

FACTOR (the Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings) is a public/private partnership that supports the production of sound recordings by Canadian musicians and helps Canadian music companies make recordings available to a wider public.
Factor has been the primary funder of Music NWT since our inception.

Breakout West

BreakOut West is an annual music event that includes an immersive, music development conference, music festival hosted by the Western Canadian Music Alliance. Due to COVID19 complications, the 2020 Home Edition was hosted all online.

Canadian Council of Music Industry Associations

Canada’s music industry associations (MIAs) are membership-based, not-for-profit organizations that provide important services for musicians and other industry professionals within their provinces or territories. Music NWT is a member of the CCMIA. With the other Canadian MIA’s we find collective opportunities for education, advocacy, professional development, funding, showcasing opportunities, networking events, and access to essential information resources.

1 on 1 Consultations: Your career is unique. We are available to meet with you to discuss whatever you need to support your music career. Members receive unlimited consults, whenever you need us, or simply give us a call when you’ve got a question. Just one consult is worth the price of your annual membership!
Workshops: Music NWT offers a variety of workshops throughout the year. Depending on the needs of our membership and current trends of the industry, workshop topics vary, but typical topics include: how to market yourself, how to apply for grants, song writing, live performance skills, publishing, pitching for TV/film placements, how to apply to festivals and much more. Workshops are usually offered free for members, or at an enormous discount.
Funding Assistance: Music NWT is the provincial representative for national funding organization FACTOR (The Foundation Assisting Canadian Talent on Recordings), and can offer guidance with applications to other agencies including NWT Arts Council.
Information: Music NWT will be launching a new e-release news letter in 2022. Stay-tuned!
Promotion: As Music NWT continues to build its NWT and National followers, a wide variety of partnerships and collaborations, we will help promote your business with strategy development, providing potential contacts and direct marketing. Music NWT will soon be hosting an online store offering our members merchandise in addition to our own great merch! In September 2022, Music NWT will be hosting the first NWT Music Awards and Showcase, providing Regional and National recognition to our artists.
Music Community Collaboration: Music NWT has created a music community for our members to connect with one another, find collaboration opportunists, sell and buy musical instruments and equipment, share stories and support one another.
Advocacy: We represent the NWT music industry’s interests to a wide variety of provincial and national panels and stakeholder groups. We speak for your interests and update you on information that could affect you and your career.
BreakOut West/Western Canadian Music Awards: Music NWT members receive discounted rates to attend the conference, apply to showcase, submit award nominations and more. Members are also voters of the Western Canadian Music Awards.
A Voice: Members receive nomination and voting eligibility for the Music NWT Board of Directors.
Random Opportunities: We pass on a variety of perks, such as draws for VIP passes to Folk on the Rocks, contests and other events as they arise.
